As a trained teacher I am able to effectively pass on information in sound and interesting ways. I have an enquiring mind that is not satisfied with basic instructions. I need to understand the why and how of almost everything. It is this trait that allows me to explain to my students the reasons behind why I make suggestions and share with all information that will in the long term enable each to be an independant artist.
Testimonies listed below will speak for themselves as to how my teaching style is received.
I have been teaching art classes to adults since 1999 and enjoy every minute of this vocation.

This workshop is aimed at training you to see and understand the temperature of colour. This is a very important area of study to understand and has application to every genre. Understanding colour is a huge advantage when it comes to any painting process. We will explore the nuts and bolts of this subject until you have gained an understanding. There will be sundry exercises to perform and a small study painting will be executed.
You MUST pre register well in advance to attend.

Stormy Skies Workshop

A Demonstration Evening precedes this workshop: October 7 (Sunday) at 7pm. Note that non workshop attendees can attend this evening.
At last you can unleash your wild side as we look at my energized method for rendering storm clouds. Get busy now and snap away with your cameras to catch as many storm clouds as possible over the coming months. You must pre register to attend.

Still Life Workshop

A Demonstration Evening precedes this workshop on Nov 25 (Sunday) at 7pm. Note that non workshop attendees can attend this evening.
This workshop is aimed at sharpening your visual skills coupled with your own personal response to your subject matter. The subjects chosen are endless in variety and also can be represented in many different ways. As preparation for this workshop you will need to study some still life paintings in effort to determine the style in which you would like to render your subject matter. A demonstration evening is an optional extra attendance that will lend a visual prompt to the rendering of different textures and surfaces. In the past these evenings have proved most valuable to workshop attendees.

Student Testimonies and Comments

"Louise is a highly gifted and skilled artist. Besides her ability to pass on her knowledge in a relaxed and fun way, she creates an environment of mutual respect and encouragement, where each person feels respected, encouraged and valued, so the spirit of the artist can soar. She is a born teacher with a discernment of when to challenge and when to nurture and encourage. Louise is a person of integrity who helps artists to discover their unique creativity and individuality, instead of trying to make 'clones' of herself. I immensely enjoy her classes and look forward to them every week. In the two years I have been attending I learned a lot and my development as an artist greatly exceeds my expectations."
Petra Daecke

"Thank you so much for the days of wonderful tuition you gave our group this year. You covered such a vast amount of my favourite subject - Light, and how to make the most of it in our art. Your material preparation was faultless and vast. The demonstration with the jelly cups and the lights of different temperatures was amazing! So simple, but yet, so effective in pointing up the temperature changes in shadows, reflected lights and, most effectively, the absolute unequivocal shift in colours. Even those members who had real difficulties grasping the concept of colour temperature, admitted they saw the light. (Sorry about the bad pun - I'm addicted to them.) Most of all, I'd like to thank you for your kindness and gentle, positive encouragement of my painting. I often feel very disheartened by my slow progress, especially when the more talented group members can produce wonderful work so quickly. Your understanding and encouragement gave me confidence to continue painting the subjects I love, in the way that I love to do them, without being disheartened, as I have often felt in the past with some other tutors."
Jan Cox 2008

"What a pleasure it was to have you as our tutor. You opened my heart to art! I have a few passions in life, some of them being Watercolour florals, Opera and classical music. Taking on watercolour has been a long and sometimes painful challenge, but your incredible classes on light and shadow, cool and warm colours finally got the message home! I guess you would have to say that it finally clicked and it is thanks to you. Your beautiful, gentle approach to each student worked wonders. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for having the insight to see where I was and to give me your gentle encouragement. I sincerely hope that you will visit our group many more times."
