Artist Statement:

Louise Corke - A passionate painter

I am a fine art artist wanting to share with you the love, joy, peace and beauty that I feel about the world in which we live. I have a passionate love for working with pastels in particular. The colours, the vibrancy, the sensuous nature and the immediacy are all very attractive to me. I want my paintings to touch you with a goodness and wholesomeness that will influence you in a positive way. This aim stems from my deep committment to the Christain faith. Pastels enable me to express my response to all things beautiful in a very satisfying way.

I enjoy traditional paintings, but further to this, I aim to produce responsive realism works, that is, to add poetry which allows me to give you a unique view of ordinary things. I love old fashioned things perhaps because they remind me of a time when honesty, integrity, loyalty, etc were very much promoted and practised in abundance. I would be delighted should my paintings bring to you a fresh and honest portrayal that enhances your life for having experienced my images.

Brief Resume:

I have adopted a serious love of painting since 1993, although I was considered good at drawing from a very early age. My paintings reflect my life philosophy, that of focusing on things that are positive, beautiful and uplifting. I venture to share my viewpoint on life through participation in a number of exhibitions, gallery representation and through local and international fine art competitions. I am delighted that my work is well received. My experience as Past President of the Pastel Society of Australia and currently as an art teacher has enabled me to encourage many in their pursuit of a career in the arts. My goals as an artist are to have others enjoy my creations thereby sharing in the love of all things beautiful, teaching to share my expereince base, inspiring others to pursue a positive craft and encouraging artists to continue on their creative journey.

I am honoured to be a Master Pastellist with the Pastel Society of Australia. I have won a number of awards and regularly make my paintings available for sale. My art studies have been with Dale Crabtree (a Victorian artist) for several years and then with a number of high profile tutors in a workshop setting. My studies include a scholarship with the Pastel Society of America and international tutors Gwenneth Barth, Claude Texier, Richard McDaniel, Richard Poink, Maceo Mitchell, Flora Giffuni, Jason Chang, Suzanne Young, Doug Dawson, Duane Wakeham, Jack Pardue and several others. I have an insatiable desire to keep learning and just love the seemingly never ending journey that the world of art offers.

Medium Preferences:

I work predominately in soft pastels, the most permanent of all painting mediums and the one requiring the least amount of restoration work over time.
